http://www.csrs.riken.jp/en/symposium/index.html RIKEN Center for Sustainable Resource Science (CSRS) will host an international symposium themed “Hope for the Future - RIKEN Symposium on Sustainable Resource Science -”. Since its establishment in 2013, CSRS has been promoting “problem-solving” research based on the principle of “manufacturing” with a low environmental impact, with the aim of realizing a sustainable society through the integration of different fields of plant science, chemical biology, and catalytic chemistry. The purpose of this symposium is to establish a new field of “sustainable resource science” for the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to widely disseminate this field to society, and to allow us to discuss society’s expectation of this new field and what our centers and researchers can and should do to make this all possible. Dr. Akira Yoshino (recipient of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2019) and Professor Johan Rockström (Director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research) will give talks as keynote speakers. Zoom Webinar (up to 500 participants) * Simultaneous interpretation (English to Japanese) will be provided. * Registration is required. Live-stream on YouTube * English only * Free to access |

https://cbs.riken.jp/en/summer/ Lecture Schedule: June 28- July 2, 2021 Summer Program 2021 Overview Attendees come from wide-ranging academic backgrounds and are usually enrolled in graduate courses, or have recently embarked on postdoctoral research. However, candidates holding other positions are encouraged to apply. Because of the uncertainty related to travel due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the program will be offered in a hybrid format in which students and lecturers can attend virtually or in-person. However, there is a possibility that the meeting will be entirely virtual if travel remains difficult. We will assess the situation in March and make a final decision about whether some participants can attend in person (hybrid) or whether the meeting will be completely virtual. Regardless, we will use every tool at our disposal to make this an interactive, engaging and rewarding experience for all participants. For students who are able to enter the country for on-site participation, RIKEN CBS will provide funding for travel and accommodation if they do not have existing financial support. |
