Date: March 21, 2024 13:00 – 17:00 One of HUPO's key activities is the Proteomics Standards Initiative (PSI), which aims to define community standards for proteomics data to facilitate data comparison, exchange, and validation. The ProteomeXchange Consortium (PXC), an international proteomics repository, has also developed around this community. The workshop is held once a year in the spring, and the 2024 workshop will be held March 18-20 in Kyoto, Japan. Since this is a good opportunity for the core members of this field to get together, we have organized a half-day symposium, "HUPO-PSI Kyoto Symposium 2024 on Omics Repository, Database and Data Journal," on March 21, the day after the workshop. The symposium is not only about proteomics, but also about the current status of other omics repositories in Japan, the future of international collaboration in proteomics, and new attempts to use the data journal "Journal of Proteome Data and Methods" that JPrOS has been working on. If you are interested, please join us. Program: 13:00 - 13:10 Yasushi Ishihama “Opening remark” 13:10 - 13:35 Kiyoko F. Aoki-Kinoshita "Guidelines, repositories, and databases for glycoproteomics" 13:35 - 14:00 Fumio Matsuda “The Shin-MassBank project: A collaboration between proteomics and metabolomics” 14:00 - 14:20 Break 14:20 - 14:45 Hiroshi Mori “Microbiome Datahub: an integrated database to accelerate microbiome research” 14:45 - 15:10 Shujiro Okuda “Current status of the jPOST and JPDM projects and future approaches to multi-omics data integration” 15:10 - 15:35 Eun Ok Paek “Introducing KPOP - Korean ProteOmics rePository” 15:35 - 15:50 Break 15:50 - 16:15 Juan A. Vizcaino "The PRIDE database and ProteomeXchange: Making proteomics data FAIR” 16:15 - 16:40 Eric W. Research of major public health significance is being advanced through large population health and disease cohorts and other approaches for discovery of biological markers of chronic and infectious disease. These efforts are powered by advances in technologies underpinning large-scale biology, and in quantitative methods, many based on new advances in computing technologies, that permit exploration of the underlying causality. We will discuss these advances and how they are giving rise to new understanding of disease pathogenesis that will be transformative for enabling new treatments against a wide spectrum of diseases. The speakers include academic and industry scientists who are leading breakthrough work on RNA-based medicine that has already had a profound impact for health. Related social issues and policy frameworks that are critical to the success of these endeavours will be addressed. The symposium & Workshop will provide an opportunity to learn in-depth about UK Biobank, which is the world’s leading population health study to link genomics, proteomics, metabolomics and imaging to health and environmental/lifestyle information databases on large-scale, and how the UK Biobank data can be accessed and exploited by academic and industry researchers worldwide. |

flyer We are delighted to announce that we will hold the ITMAT Kyoto University International Symposium entitled “Biology of Human Diseases Comes of Age” at the Kyoto University. This symposium, delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic, is held in collaboration with the Institute for Translational Medicine and Therapeutics (ITMAT) at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. This symposium is the first time that the Institute for Translational Medicine and Therapeutics (ITMAT) at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine will hold its international symposium on translational research in Asia. It was originally scheduled to be held in 2020, but was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. We are finally in a situation where we can hold an international symposium face-to-face, and we are looking forward to it. The meeting will provide ample opportunity for discussion and interaction with the speakers and the broad topical palate makes it likely that all attendees will be challenged by novel concepts, approaches, and technologies. We are delighted that this important meeting will take place in the august setting of the University of Kyoto and welcome you to come and join us in Kyoto at such a wonderful time of the year. Dates: Sunday and Monday, March 10-11, 2024 Venue: Kyoto University Shirankaikan, Inamori Hall & Yamauchi Hall *Advance Registration required. Fees: Symposium: Free, Reception: 5,000 JPY Registration Deadline: Thursday, February 22, 2024 (Japan Standard Time) Organizers: Contact: |

We are pleased to announce that the RIKEN BDR Symposium 2024 "Time Across Scales: Development, Homeostasis and Aging" will be held on March 4 to 6, 2024 at RIKEN Center for Biosystems Dynamics Research, Kobe, Japan. Biological phenomena consist of processes that have various temporal scales. For example, synthesis, localization, and degradation of macromolecules such as protein and RNA occur at the second-to-minute scale, supporting cellular events that function at the hour-to-day timescale. Then, the cellular events support the tissue function that is maintained at the month-to-year scale. In addition to the molecularly encoded fine mechanism that sustains life, each organism has its own unique lifespan, which is regulated by aging, the deteriorating process towards organismal death. Each biological event has its own unique “timer” that defines its pace, likely regulating the pace of events at different scales. This symposium aims to bring together a wide range of scientists to discuss timer mechanisms and crosstalk of different timers that define the biological pace of development, homeostasis, and aging. Topics will include: We hope that this symposium will be a great opportunity to stimulate cross-disciplinary interactions and discussions that can open new avenues of life science studies. We encourage the submission of abstracts for the poster session for a lively and informative exchange of views. A small number of poster abstracts will be selected for oral presentations. We look forward to welcoming you to our institute in March 2024.
