Field: Non-coding RNA biology
Non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) are often correlated with human diseases and also contribute to various biological phenomenon. However, the mechanisms of how ncRNAs function and how their expression is regulated remain unknown. From a translational perspective, expansion of ncRNA research is expected to contribute to nucleic acids therapeutics. RIKEN seeks a principal investigator who will lead a laboratory with a focus on elucidating ncRNA functions in biology and in human diseases. The successful candidate is expected to conduct cutting edge researches in ncRNA biology with experimental approaches, such as biochemistry, cell biology and genetics, and/or with data-driven approaches, such as structural biology, genomics and large-scale data-sciences.

Field: in situ Structural Biology
RIKEN has introduced cryo-electron microscopes (Tecnai Arctica, Krios G4) and cryo-FIB/SEM (Aquilos2) to establish the research infrastructure for single particle analysis and cryo-electron tomography. In this call for applications, we are looking for a PIwho will play a central role in promoting research on "in situ structural biology," i.e., "in situ analysis of complex structures of biological macromolecules functioning in cells," by making full use of these research facilities, especially cryo-EMs.
Since this field is still in its infancy, we welcome not only candidates with experience and achievements in cryo-EM tomography, but also ambitious candidates who will pioneer the field of in situ structural biology research based on their past research experiences, such as single-particle analysis of reconstituted functional complexes in vitro. We are looking for a candidate who is willing to explore the field of in situ structural biology based on his or her previous research experience.
The Center for Biosystems Dynamics Research (BDR) aims to understand the general principles of organismal temporal dynamics throughout the lifespan from birth to death, including aging. We have more than 70 laboratories working on various approaches including imaging, multi-omics, theoretical biology, molecular biology, structural biology, stem cell biology, organoids, and various animal models. Each PI will be provided with a research environment including start-up and research funding for independent research. In addition, PIs are encouraged to carry out research projects in collaboration with other laboratories to achieve the Center's goals, for which additional funding will be provided. The laboratory head may employ researchers, technicians, and assistants with these research funds and any external funding obtained. Support is provided for the maintenance and management of laboratory animals, genetically modified animal production, optical imaging, electron microscopy (TEM, SEM), and omics analysis. The Center also provides opportunities for joint research through its network of medical institutions and companies and can accept graduate students through its affiliated graduate school system. Description:
The He lab at UC-Berkeley is one of the pioneers in studying the functions of the non-coding genome in mammalian development and disease. We employ novel approaches in mouse genetics, comparative genomics, cell and molecular biology to understand the functional importance and the molecular regulation of various non-coding elements, including microRNAs (miRNAs), long ncRNAs and more recently, transposon elements. Combining new technology of mouse CRISPR genome engineering and innovative live cell imaging technologies, the He lab pioneers in vivo studies to elucidate the new cellular functions and new molecular mechanisms of ncRNAs and transposons, which often lead to exciting new directions in the field. The discoveries of the He lab have been well recognized by prestigious journals including Nature, Science and Cell.

Responsibilities:

The Niwa laboratory (https://niwaorg.com/) in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurobiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham is seeking a creative and motivated postdoctoral fellow.

We aim to investigate how psychosocial stress affects behaviors via altered neuronal function and connectivity in brain. The ultimate goal of the laboratory’s research is to understand the biological mechanisms by which the endocrine system controls the developmental trajectory of brain and behavior. By combining mouse behavioral assays, in vivo monitoring of neuronal activities in freely-behaving mice, optogenetic/chemogenetic modulation of neuronal activities, neural circuit tracing, and epigenetic/gene expression analysis, we plan to unravel the underlying mechanisms from the molecular and cellular to the circuitry and behavioral levels.

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurobiology offers a strong supportive research environment in both laboratory and clinical settings. Research resources are enriched through the Neuroscience community at UAB.

The post-doctoral fellow will be encouraged to develop her/his own research within the overall goal of the laboratory: understanding of neurobiology underlying stress-related disorders. The fellow will also have an opportunity to take part in the highly interactive scientific community at the UAB.

Qualifications:
1) Candidates must have a doctoral level degree (M.D. and/or Ph.D.) in neurobiology, neuroscience, neuropsychophrmacology, biomedical engineering, system biology, molecular biology, or a related field.
2) Preferences will be given to creative and motivated candidates with experience in rodent behavioral assessments, optogenetics, electrophysiological and/or in vivo imaging methods, but highly motivated candidates with alternate experience are also encouraged to apply.
3) The ideal postdoctoral candidate will be dedicated to basic research with strong analytical and communication skills. The fellow is expected to collaborate with colleagues inside and outside the laboratory.

This person will perform behavioral assays, neurochemical assays including in vivo microdialysis, circuit mapping, and in vivo calcium imaging with a miniature epifluorescence microscope in conjunction with optogenetic/chemogenetic manipulation in the neurobiology and neuroendocrinology of parenting, emotional, motivational, and social behaviors. One of our projects is currently supported by a 5-year R01 research grant from the National Institute of Mental Health to understand the role of adolescent stress in postpartum mood and cognition.

An opportunity is immediately available for a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Washington University Division of Nephrology. Our research is focused on the homeostasis of organelles, including ER, mitochondria and lysosome (autophagy) in the kidney disease. The overall goals of our research are to delineate the molecular mechanisms underlying stress response-mediated kidney diseases, including nephrotic syndrome (NS), Alport syndrome, autosomal dominant tubulointerstitial kidney disease (ADTKD), acute ischemic kidney injury, and other acquired forms of ER disease, to develop ER stress biomarkers in human patients, and to identify novel drugs to restore the homeostasis of these organelles. (Proc Natl Acad Sci 2019; JCI Insight 2017; J Am Soc Nephrol 2016, JCI and PNAS 2021 under revision, with two issued patents related to the discovery of ER stress biomarkers and novel ER modulators). The posted position will focus on mechanistic investigation of the therapeutic role of our newly patented biotherapeutic protein in the treatment of nephrotic syndrome and ER calcium dysregulation. We are using cutting-edge research approaches, including stably transfected or knock-down cells, molecular and cell biology, biochemistry, inducible transgenic, conditional knock-out and CRISPR generated knock-in mouse models, human iPSCs derived from patients, and state-of-the-art in vitro & in vivo imaging techniques. We are also collaborating with NIH labs for high throughput drug screening. In addition, we have access to multiple human kidney disease consortiums to acquire their genomic data, gene expression, histology from kidney biopsies, and urine samples. The PI is well funded by multiple grants from NIH, Department of Defense etc. and industry. The lab environment is highly supportive and the position will be stable for at least 3 years.

Required Qualifications:
A PhD or MD/PhD degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, molecular genetics or other related fields is required. A strong background in molecular biology or biochemistry is required. Previous working experience in ER, mitochondria or autophagy, or calcium signaling, or in podocyte biology or mouse genetic models of kidney disease is highly desired, but not required.

Type of employment
The post is an indefinite-term employment position, subject to RIKEN's mandatory retirement age of 60. There is a re-employment program to hire individuals as fixed-term employees from age 60 to age 65. This position does NOT offer a retirement allowance.
As an exception, depending on screening results, the successful candidate may be initially employed on a fixed-term employment contract up to a maximum of 5 years with the possibility of being promoted to indefinite-term employment after a separate review process that will take place, as a general rule, at the end of the first 3 years of employment. The monthly base salary is subject to change due to amendments to RIKEN regulations. Discretionary work, commuting and housing allowances will be provided. Social insurance will be applied. Field: Adult dynamic homeostasis
Basic research related to adult dynamic homeostasis. The Tsuboi laboratory at Tsinghua-Shenzhen is recruiting opening postdoctoral members who are interested in RNA, mitochondria, or aging research (from September). We focused on understanding how the cellular organization controls gene regulation and age-related processes such as cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. We believe our quantitative approach combining microscopy, computational modeling, and biochemistry will discover anti-aging drugs in the long run.

A postdoc opportunity is available to study hepatic fibrosis in the lab of Dr. Jennifer Chen, Assistant Professor, Department of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at University of California, San Francisco.

The lab studies novel mechanisms of hepatic stellate cell inactivation and fibrosis regression. The lab has identified and validated several antifibrotic targets using in vitro and in vivo models of hepatic fibrosis. Our group is involved in several exciting collaborations, including with medicinal chemists, to develop novel small molecule inhibitors to target these identified pathways.
